The music school in Heliópolis
Given the size of the projects and the expansion of its activities, the need of building its own headquarters arose, so that students could study, rehearse and also make presentations. Today, the complex has 5 thousand m2 of built area, 3 large halls for orchestral and choral rehearsals, 29 individual study rooms, 7 rooms for collective classes and a percussion room. The building was constructed with the best acoustical materials available, with soundproof rooms for music practice.
In addition, it also has a collection of more than 900 instruments and hundreds of scores, a library area, offices for administrative staff, a teachers' room, a student's office, dressing rooms, industrial kitchen and common areas.
The land was ceded by the City of São Paulo through COHAB (State Housing Company). The organization Pró-Vida sponsored the first part of the project, in 2009, building the school space, in an area of 2,800 m2.
The construction of the second building of the complex was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture, through the National Tax Benefit Law for Culture and sponsorship by Eletrobras. The Institute is still looking for resources to complete the third stage of the project: the construction of the concert hall with a capacity for 600 people. With the implementation of this last stage, the complex will occupy 6,000 m2 of floor space and will have the capacity to serve approximately 2,800 students per year.
